Best Classic Mojito
This is the best classic mojito recipe I have tried. Think white rum, lime and mint flavors. So refreshing and delicious! Mojitos usually have a few very basic ingredients which, when combined, make one of my favorite cocktails ever. All you need is fresh spearmint, fresh limes, a little sugar, white rum, and some sparkling club soda. I mix mine by the glass because that is the best way to make the perfect mojito. This drink takes me to the tropics with ocean waves and palm trees.
Ingredients needed to make the Best Classic Mojito:
- 10 fresh spearmint leaves + 2 sprigs of spearmint (The more fresh spearmint the better!)
- 1/2 lime, cut into four wedges
- 1-2 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1 1/2 oz white rum (white rum makes the best mojito)
- 1/2 cup or less chilled club soda (just enough to fill up the glass)
Equipment needed to make mojitos:
- 8 oz heavy-bottomed glass
- Metal or wooden muddler (this is used to mix and mash the ingredients together)
How to make the Best Classic Mojito:
- Place the spearmint leaves and one lime wedge in the bottom of an 8 oz heavy-bottomed glass. Use a muddler to lightly crush the spearmint and lime juice together.
- Add two more lime wedges with 1 tbsp sugar and muddle again. (Try not to completely pulverize the mint so you still have some intact leaves.)
- Fill the glass with the muddled mixture with ice cubes.
- Pour the white rum over the ice and then fill the remainder of the glass with club soda.
- Add two sprigs of spearmint into the glass.
- Stir, taste and if needed add another 1 tbsp sugar.
- Garnish with the remaining lime wedge.
Other optional flavorings to add to your mojito:
- For something different you could muddle two strawberries into the mojito with sugar and lime wedges.
- Add a little pureed mango to make a mango mojito.
- Use coconut rum instead of plain rum to get a coconut vibe.
- Gin or vodka could be used in place of the white rum if it’s not available but the drink will have a slightly different flavor.
