Fresh Peach Syrup

Fresh Peach Syrup

I love summertime when fresh peaches are plentiful and in season and the perfect way to use them is to make some homemade fresh peach syrup.  I developed this recipe because my mother used to make a yummy peach syrup but we didn’t have a recipe.  It is so quick and easy to make but tastes like you slaved over the stove.  The total time to make this treat is about 20 minutes from start to finish.  This syrup is the perfect accompaniment for french toast, pancakes, waffles, crepes or even ice cream.  It can be frozen if you want to make up a big batch for later.  It is a delicious change from plain old maple syrup and you can make it chunky or smooth, whichever texture you prefer.

What you will need to make Fresh Peach Syrup:

  • 3 cups of peaches, peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon (optional)

How to make Fresh Peach Syrup:

Chopped peaches    Add water to the peaches in pan    Cook peaches in water

  • Peel the peaches with a paring knife and coarsely chop them.
  • Place peaches in a medium saucepan and add water.
  • Bring mixture to a boil and cook over medium heat until the peaches are soft.

Use immersion blender to mash mixture    Add lemon juice to peaches

Add sugar to peaches     Add maple syrup    Add cinnamon to peach mixture

  •  Blend the peach mixture with an immersion blender to your desired texture.  I like mine with a few small chunks in it.
  •  Add lemon, sugar and maple syrup and cook over low heat for a couple of minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved.
  •  Sprinkle in some cinnamon, if desired, and stir well.
  •  Pour syrup into containers and let it cool.  Keep the mixture refrigerated and use within two weeks.  If you want to freeze it place in freezer containers and freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes for peach syrup:

  • I added cinnamon to my syrup but it would be delicious without it.  You could also add some vanilla if desired.
  • This recipe could be doubled or tripled depending on how many peaches you have and how many containers you want.  This recipe makes a pint of syrup.
  • You can adjust the sweetness of the syrup to your liking by adding more or less sugar.
