Open Face Tuna Melt
LeAnn
I love tuna melt sandwiches and this open face tuna melt is easy and delicious. Made with creamy tuna salad and topped with tomato and gooey cheese on toasty bread.

- 1 5-7 oz. can albacore tuna, drained and flaked (I used Kirklands tuna which is a 7 oz can)
- 1 small rib celery, chopped
- 1 green onion, chopped
- 2-3 baby pickles, chopped
- 2 1/2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp yellow or Dijon mustard
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 3 slices Colby jack or cheddar cheese (big enough to cover the sandwich)
- 3 slices thick bread of choice (I like Granny Bread or English muffin halves)
In a medium sized bowl combine the tuna, celery, green onion, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, garlic powder and salt and pepper, to taste.
Spread 1/3 of tuna mixture on each slice of bread.
Top each sandwich with slices of tomato and place cheese slices on top.
Place the sandwiches on the air fryer sheet or a baking sheet. If using an air fryer, broil on high (400 degrees) for about 4 minutes or until the cheese is nice and bubbly. If using an oven, set the baking sheet under the broiler until cheese is melted and bubbling. Serve immediately.
Notes: *Use your favorite bread. Thick bread is best to hold all the toppings. English muffins, bagels, or hamburger buns would work as well. *Adjust the tuna filling ingredients to your taste. Celery should be chopped fairly fine. Pickles are optional. If you don't like pickles try adding a little lemon juice or lemon peel for acidity. Red onion can be used in place of the green onion. *The tomato can be placed on top after the cheese is melted if you don't want it cooked. *You can use other types of cheese such as provolone, pepper jack, or havarti if desired. *If you want to make a grilled tuna melt, use two slices of bread. Place the tuna and cheese (leave out the tomato) on the bottom slice and then butter both sides of the bread. Place in a frying pan over medium heat and grill until both sides of bread are toasted and the cheese is melted. Turn the sandwich after it is toasted on one side and then toast the other side. Watch closely so it doesn't burn.
